Builder Application Process

Thank you for taking the time to look into becoming a Builder for Snapcraft! Being a Builder is an excellent way to help improve and shape both the server and the community. As a Builder, your primary responsibility is to create new and exciting worlds for the hundreds of Snapcraftians that play on the server everyday! This work is challenging and, at times, very demanding; we are looking for creative and hard-working individuals who can create impressive builds in a reasonably short amount of time.


Part 1:
Requirements

• You must have attained the age of 15 prior to applying. (Exceptions can be made if the quality of your builds is outstanding)
• You must have an active Discord account in order to be able to discuss details of projects.
• You must be fluent in English as well as having proper grammar and spelling skills.
• You must be reasonably mature and willing to work with others.
• And most importantly, you must be a good builder.

Please keep these requirements in mind whilst applying as they are important to us and you will be held accountable to them. To ensure you are a good fit for the Staff Team and the Build Team (and to verify certain aspects of your application), there is a mandatory introduction call with a few members of the Build Team and Staff Team. Therefore, a working microphone is required for the introduction call (at least). If you don't have one, please borrow one. These requirements are non-negotiable, so please don't make threads discussing any possible leniency; all threads created to try to in-act change will be locked and deleted.

What to Include in your Application

• Real and In-Game Name?
• Current Age?
• Current Time-Zone? (In terms of GMT: ex. GMT - 5)
• What times are you available?
• Your Discord username
• Why do you want to join the Snapcraft Build Team?
• Have you ever been on any notable build teams? (BlockWorks, Everbloom, goCreative, etc.)
• Have you ever been banned or muted? If so, please briefly explain.
• VERY IMPORTANT: Attach an Imgur link to pictures of at least TWO of your builds that you built on your own.
• Please tell us a little bit about yourself and anything else you would like us to know.

Please keep in mind that we - the Builders - are extremely busy with various projects and responsibilities, so it is in your best interest to take this as serious as possible and to not waste our time.

Things to Keep in Mind

A very important thing to keep note of is that if you are found to have lied on your application in any way, you will be immediately denied and barred from ever applying again. We need responsible and mature members to add to our team, and we have neither the time nor the inclination to deal with those who are untrustworthy. With the nature of our work, we often are in possession of server secrets and we need to be sure that you can be entrusted with that information.

Going beyond that, it is also useful to note that, as a Builder, you will be expected to act as a Helper in any way necessary. You are a staff member of the server and need to act accordingly.

Finally, please don't ask us to look at your application. We promise we will look at every application in a reasonable amount of time. That being said, please allow up to a week to see any response/feedback as we are occupied with other responsibilities, and - while we appreciate your interest in joining the team - we often have more pressing concerns.

Part 2:
Rules for Builders

Below is one of the most important sections of this entire thread. Please take a few moments to thoroughly look over and aquatint yourself with it.

• Follow all server rules related to normal players.
• Follow all server rules related to staff members. (If accepted, more information will follow)
• Be reasonably active and be involved in a majority of the build projects.
• Be a positive role model in the Snapcraft Community.
• Follow all directions pertaining to builds as given by Maarten or associates.
• Never, under any circumstances (without the direct approval of Maarten), release any information about a current or unreleased build project.

Failure to comply with these rules may result in your demotion and even a ban from the server. If you breach confidentiality for any project you will be immediately demoted and barred from ever being a Builder again.

Part 3:
Helpful Tips and Tricks for your Application

Please don't use smileys!
We appreciate your friendly nature, but we would prefer if you could keep your application as professional and as neat as possible. The neater it is, the faster we can process the applications, which means, the faster you will know if you've been accepted or not.

Keep your application neat and organized!
Going along with the last tip, make sure you organize your responses in a clear and easy-to-read way.

Be human!
If I wanted a robot to apply for builder, I would have programmed one myself. Don't regurgitate what other staff have said.

Stray from cliches!
Great that you want to help the server grow, and catch hackers. Cool that you read our rules like the bible - I don't judge. However, anyone can write that stuff. Write about stuff that applies to yourself. What makes you special? What makes you different?

Don't play the idiot.
Your app can be amazing, but if you're a complete idiot in-game or around the forums, we'll notice. If you are not what your application says you are, we'll notice.

Just don't lie in general.

FAQs

Q: When will I find out if my application has been accepted or denied?
A: Well, let me begin by saying thank you for taking the 5 minutes to read the post that I spent 2 hours writing. If you can't be bothered to go back and read through the information that is only here to help you, the answer to your question is: at most, a week.

Q: What do Builders do?
A: To keep it short and sweet, we build nearly all of the new maps that come included in the periodic updates to the server. We work very closely with Maarten and Admin Team to ensure that the look and feel of the server stays updated and fresh to keep the server interesting and fun for you - the player!

Q: What permissions do Builders get?
A: Access to the Build World (oohhh so secret and mysterious!!!), full World Edit and Voxel Sniper in Creative, full plot override in Creative, vanish in Creative, tpo in Creative, and the super cool [Builder] title.

Q: What are the legal ramifications of violating the international fair-use laws concerning intellectual property (IP) and how that can relate to Minecraft, specifically the Dutch legal entity Snapcraft, VOF?
A: As asserted in 1886 at the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works, international copyright protection extends to "every production in the literary, scientific and artistic domain, whatever may be the mode or form of its expression." What does this mean for you? Well, as a creative endeavor, all builds are classified as an artistic work through the medium of Minecraft and therefore hold the same copyright laws as, say, a logo or brand. If you're still reading this (which I highly doubt anyone is), please send BakedCornbread or Albino_Duck a message on the forums and let them know you actually care about their work. If you do, we'll give you a hug.. just tell us your address (don't actually... we don't care). To continue about copyright, as stated below, once a project is built for Snapcraft, the sole ownership of those rights of fair-use go directly to Snapcraft, VOF. This means that if you reproduce the work in any way, you could be found to have violated international copyright law which may lead to criminal charges.

Q: Should I use a thesaurus to make my application seem better?
A: Please no. We're just simple Builders, we're not that smart. Please keep your applications short, simple, and concise. In other words, tell us everything we need to know as quickly as possible.

Q: Do I get paid as a Builder?
A: Generally, no. Becoming a Builder means that you volunteer to build for Snapcraft for freeeeeeeeeee.

It merely only means that we have extremely high expectations and you may not have fit the position perfectly. Please keep building and practicing. By submitting an application, you affirm that you understand all builds built on the Snapcraft Network for Snapcraft, VOF and all rights of property thereof become forfeited at the moment of inception and thereafter to the aforementioned legal entity. Further usage of the builds is prohibited unless given direct permission from the previously asserted owner(s) of said assets.

TL;DR: Anything you build for Snapcraft is Maarten's property and you are unable to reuse it (post it on Planet Minecarft, sell it, etc.) without his permission.
