Mojang Is Being Bought By Microsoft.

Yes, the deal is real. Mojang is being bought by Microsoft.
Why did you sell Minecraft?
Minecraft has grown from a simple game to a project of monumental significance. Though we’re massively proud of what Minecraft has become, it was never Notch’s intention for it to get this big.

As you might already know, Notch is the creator of Minecraft and the majority shareholder at Mojang. He’s decided that he doesn’t want the responsibility of owning a company of such global significance. Over the past few years he’s made attempts to work on smaller projects, but the pressure of owning Minecraft became too much for him to handle. The only option was to sell Mojang. He’ll continue to do cool stuff though. Don’t worry about that.

There are only a handful of potential buyers with the resources to grow Minecraft on a scale that it deserves. We’ve worked closely with Microsoft since 2012, and have been impressed by their continued dedication to our game and its development. We’re confident that Minecraft will continue to grow in an awesome way.

Minecraft means many different things to millions of people across the world, and to each and every Mojangsta. We feel that this is the best way for everyone – you guys included – to benefit.

What about the other editions of Minecraft? Will they stop being developed?
There’s no reason for the development, sales, and support of the PC/Mac, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, Vita, iOS, and Android versions of Minecraft to stop. Of course, Microsoft can’t make decisions for other companies or predict the choices that they might make in the future.

We’re extremely proud of all editions and the awesome things you have achieved through playing together.

Is the game going to change? Will we still be able to make videos, mods, awesome builds, and all the cool stuff we’ve created over the past few years?
Minecraft will continue to evolve, just like it has since the start of development. We don’t know specific plans for Minecraft’s future yet, but we do know that everyone involved wants the community to grow and become even more amazing than it’s ever been. Stopping players making cool stuff is not in anyone’s interests.

What about the Mojang staff? What’s happening to you guys?
Though it’s too early to confirm which of us will continue working on Minecraft or other projects, we predict that the vast majority (if not all) Mojangstas will continue to work at Mojang for the time being.

The founders: Notch, Carl, and Jakob are leaving. We don’t know what they’re planning. It won’t be Minecraft-related but it will probably be cool.

What’s happening to the other Mojang projects, like Scrolls?
We don’t know yet. We’ll share any news as soon as we do.

Will you still be able to tweet about features and interact with the community on a personal level, just like you’ve done over the years?
Yes! That’s not going to change.

How much money was the company bought for?
Microsoft acquired Mojang for a smooth 2.5 BILLION dollars.

I think its good he sold mojang.
He was kind of suffering from it. Everything he did got connected with minecraft, he wasnt just the creator. He was a famous character which he didnt want to be and wasn't ever meant to be.
Im just happy for him that he can go on with his life but i fear the changes in the game.
The Eula will stay the same.

OMG! Why you do this mojang! We don't want MineCrosoft or MicroCraft! Or the red error of blocks! NOOOOOOO!

This is sad.... Minecraft will never be the same, goodbye......

(I was also thinking of quitting minecraft...the game is getting boring </3 [And I mean fully])

I think this will do huge improvement to Minecraft. Minecraft currently has only like 8 developers. with Microsoft in the businesses, you will have way more developers and programmers that will be able to make way more updates means new items, mobs, blocks and do way more stuff that Mojang couldn't do on daily ( like daily updates ) because the lack of developers. also I personally think Minecraft should be transfer into a C+ based game instead of Java because it will make the fps way better and smoother.

It would take a nice while to transfer over from Java...

Also Minecraft will change, DUH, but it won't be for any worse reasons than what they have now. Microsoft's gone and said "Hey, we want fans of the game to stay fans," so if anything they're just going to add a lot of awesome things to it, kinda like the 1.8 update. But buying the company also means that Mojang members essentially have their jobs still.

I agree with Markus leaving, even though his excuse is the same thing as Christopher Eccleston's was for Doctor Who (as to "not ruin his image." Bad excuse because it's already happened to both of them, whether they like it or not. Eccleston was cool). But he hasn't been interacting with the game and its players for such a long time, and when he does he's swarmed, that I don't blame him for moving on. Maybe we'll see some awesome game advances from Scrolls and all that, or even something new?

I hope mac users can still play it idk if c+ works or not?

I know, right? But I'm glad Mojang took the idea of having more things in the ocean, and even in a creative way on that note.

lol, of course C+ works on mac, its a programming language, all the difference now is going to be they will need to change the whole game and not just the launcher to files mac can run ( explanation: windows runs .exe files and mac runs .app files ). I believe Microsoft will do that because first: most of Microsoft programs and games are based on C+, and Microsoft has way more developers that know C+ than Java. also C+ will reduce the lag and I am 100% sure Microsoft wants to improve the game and make it better than ever.

Well, I mean, Microsoft is like one of the grounding companies for everything we do. I mean, yeah, people say that Microsoft should stick with computers and that the Xbox sucks, but I mean... Xbox consoles are just underpriced computers that read a different program from normal PC's, and are made specifically for their FPS ratings, varying games, and non-crashing capabilities.

But back on track, Microsoft is a cool company. PLUS! Since they have the rights to Minecraft as of now, they can boost the work on the Xbox game like 500% by itself.

Just remember at the end of the day whose operating system you're using on your non-Macintosh laptop. :-D

Like I said.

I don't see Microsoft kicking any fans out of the bin, because that would just make people angry and swarm like killer bees about their Mac friends getting the boot. It's about the money, basically, and they won't get any more money if they start losing people. Or rather, the word circulating about the game will decrease and everyone will be sad and not buy it.

I think this is their idea, and I agree with it, to make 12-year-old boys happy. Sounds weird, but that's the basic age for people who play games like Minecraft through just Vanilla gameplay and all of that. So everything is happy-go-lucky until they figure out that the older community wants to see a few more things, and then we'll all cry in the corner until they add a new boss that you summon with a ridiculously complicated task that is very rewarding and includes the looting of an item none of us have ever heard of before.

Or magic. They might add magic stuff. Yay magic \o/

Soo much money tho
for Microsoft its nothing, they make way more money each year. also don't think they spend the money and earn nothing, its profit because they are going to upgrade the game - more people will buy the game - they will make enough money to cover the money they paid Mojang and earn even more.
