Early Sponge Disappearance?

Me, Firecharm101, and Coweh came across a base that used to belong to Zombieforevermor. He hadn't (and still hasn't) logged on to this date, for 5 weeks and 2 days, yet all of his sponges disappeared about a week early. Is this a potential glitch, or does anyone know why stuff like this can happen? I've seen it happen with a few others bases as well, where the sponges disappeared 2-3 days before the 45 day mark, and somebody had already raided them.

It is possible to disappear by lag or one of your team members did destroy it?

Well I wasn't a member in his region, and from what I know, added members can destroy/build on all blocks except the sponge. Which is why I was confused if this was a glitch, hack, or something else.
