Boats don't work in factions

As the title says, boats don't work. Whenever I try to ride one, it instantly kicks me out. Does the server being both 1.8 and 1.9 affect this?

I just fall out of the boat and it doesn't let me back in.

Boats work fine for me.
Maybe you should use 1.8.9, it's the version with the least amount of bugs
