Obsidian bases?

After playing for a few weeks I've noticed that they isn't many obsidian bases any major reason why?

Probably because it's a pain to mine and imo, does not look that great design wise?

woops, did not even notice we were in faction... I never played that. Only always do survival. Sorry.
