Another tidbit for you to chew on is that Aaron set up a skeleton NPC to stand where you are in the picture. I don't think he gave out a Quest (I checked a few times), and he disappeared a lot as well (probably from the Entity clearing command), but he was cool. Not sure if it was an Easter egg or just something chill to add to the XP farm.
