Why can't I world edit on other people's plots?

My friend wanted some work done on his plot and everytime I entered a command to set in some blocks, it would say operation completed (0 blocks affected) so nothing happened. Is there any way to fix this?

They have me trusted and added to the plot, yeah.

You can't be trusted and added at the same time. If you were trusted then added, simply tell them to trust you again and then it should work. I had a similar problem.
